A: A Life Reset: Break old habits….Suspend expectations….Change your responsibilities….Find a new world view.
Got problems? Don’t want to follow a spiritual path to India, or relocate to Tuscany? Whether you’ve lost your job, lost your romantic interest, lost your financial security — whatever it is that makes you want to get away or change your life, we’ll explore alternatives to spiritual stints in third-world countries, expensive relocations to Tuscany or Paris, or running away to join the circus.
What is it that allows people to find solace, heal, and regroup, by taking a spiritual journey to India or Tibet, or by moving to Tuscany?
It’s like pushing a Reset button.
- Break old habits
- Suspend expectations
- Change responsibilities
- Find a new world view
These are the changes inherent in relocation. At least some of your daily habits will change. Your expectations of your new location will be different from your expectations of your previous one. Some or most of your responsibilities will change. Your physical view will change; your personal view of the world and life in it likely will change, as well.
Many of us who experience what we consider to be negative life events find that, along with it, we may lack the financial resources or other ability to take an extended trip abroad to try to regroup and heal.
How, then, do we regain the ability to take on the world? Make those four changes either in place, or nearby. We can look more into specifics of figuring out how to do that, a bit later.
I did it by moving to property I already owned and worked on every day. I accelerated my program of pioneering on bare land. There was no electricity, no plumbing, no central heat, no refrigeration. There was a roof over my head, there were walls, and there were holes in the floor. There was Nature. Plants and animals. Birds singing. Peace. Quiet. Solitude.
To boil it down to one concise nugget: Do something to follow your passion, or do something that brings you serenity. Slow down, and pay attention to the little things you do. And make those things something that you appreciate. Basic things: cooking, baking, sewing, building something, writing. Read. Learn something new. Practice a new skill. Do constructive things. Creative things. The point is, you will make something tangible. You will have a visible product or new knowledge that you can be proud of. And you will have a healthy feeling of being tired at the end of the day that helps you relax and go to sleep with a bit of a smile. Do that day after day, until the twinkle comes back into your eyes.
Q: How does it work?
A: It forces you to savour the life you have.
